LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
A man accused of murder in a deadly shooting in Newburg is now facing new charges for allegedly assaulting an inmate at Louisville Metro Corrections.
Badibanga Kapongo, 46, was arrested in May for murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
Police say he shot and killed a man in the 5000 block of Poplar Level Road in April.
According to court records, officers were conducting rounds on Sunday when they witnessed Kapongo assault another inmate. Police say Kapongo punched the inmate in the face.
This led to a fight between Kapongo and the other inmate, which had to be broken up by corrections officers.
He is now charged with fourth-degree assault in this incident. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 7.
Kapongo is set to stand trial for the deadly
