PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- As state lawmakers go back to Springfield in October for fall veto session, Sen. Li Arellano believes a key legislative priority should be reducing utility bills in Illinois.
The fall veto session allows lawmakers to work on bills that were vetoed by Gov. JB Pritzker. It's also a time to pass legislation that failed to move during spring session.
That includes an energy bill, which would allow large modular nuclear reactors to be built in Illinois and invest in energy storage.
Republicans are in the super minority, but they're still urging Democrats to reconsider their policy on coal power plants. Arellano said a power plant in Dixon is only allowed to run during peak times by law.
