Changes might be coming to the children's sections of public libraries across Alabama. The Alabama Public Library System (APLS) is considering a code change to update what is deemed inappropriate for children regarding transgender ideology.

The proposed change aims to relocate books with transgender themes to the adult section, allowing access only if a parent approves. This follows a policy from July that introduced a tiered card system giving parents more control over their children's library materials.

"With this particular change, it's looking like what they're trying to do is have the transgender materials sitting in the adult section," the APLS interim director Kelyn Ralya said. "If a parent okays for a child to get stuff out of the adult section then they can find it there."
