NEW ORLEANS — The already-strained relationship between the New Orleans Police Department and the city's largest private security camera operator just got worse.
One of the first major crimes to be impacted was the quadruple shooting on Bourbon Street in the early morning hours on Sunday. An innocent 33-year-old bystander, one of three female victims, died of her wounds.
Several images surrounding the shooting in the 200 block of Bourbon Street were published by the New Orleans Police Department. Those images came from security cameras operated by Project NOLA, the city’s predominant operator of surveillance cameras, but the NOPD did not have the typical real-time access to the footage that it has used for years.
