SAINT PAUL, Minn. — On Saturday morning, gun violence prevention groups and Annunciation Church parents renewed their demands for a statewide ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines with a plea to lawmakers at the Minnesota State Capitol.

"Listen closely. Your silence is not neutral," said Brittany Haeg, whose 6-year-old son was injured in the shooting Aug. 27 . "Your silence is a choice. Your silence is complicity. You are choosing guns over our children."

By the end of the weekend, another mass shooting in Michigan had grabbed national headlines.
