COVENTRY, R.I. (WPRI) — Coventry Town Councilor Robert Delellis has stepped down following his arrest last week, 12 News has learned.

The 57-year-old was taken into custody early Wednesday morning after a Rhode Island State Police trooper pulled him over on New London Turnpike, just over the town border in East Greenwich.

Delellis, who represents District 5, has been charged with driving under the influence and refusing to submit a chemical test. Court records indicate Delellis was released on $1,000 personal recognizance.

Coventry Town Manager Daniel Parrillo confirmed that Delellis has resigned Sunday afternoon.
