SOUTH HEART, N.D. — Ever so slowly, the Kindred Vikings inched their way atop the team leaderboard.

The Vikings, made up entirely of sophomores, fired a 28-over 316 during Monday's first round of the North Dakota Class B girls golf state tournament at Pheasant Country Golf Course.

Kindred’s Lauren Mueller led the Vikings with a 3-over 75 and is tied for second place. After five bogeys on her first nine, Mueller birdied three holes on her second nine.

Bailey Theuninck shot a 4-over 76 and sits in fourth place. Reagan Lorz had a 10-over 82 and Kaylin Goldsmith fired an 11-over 83 to round out the Vikings scorers.

Mueller is tied with Wyndmere-Lidgerwood-Hankinson sophomore Hudsyn Hubrig for second. Hubrig, who started on No. 2, tallied a first-round high six birdies including three conse
