NEW YORK – The Red Sox and Yankees have met four times in the postseason in the 21st century.
At least two of the series — the 2003 and 2004 ALCS — were legendary October matchups that are still being discussed and have been the subject of several books and documentary series.
That sets a rather high bar when it comes to expectations for this week’s best-of-three Wild Card series. It’s unlikely the teams can match the drama of their previous playoff matchups — but you never know.

2003 ALCS : This was the year that the Red Sox believed they were finally in position to knock off their tormentors when it mattered most. The clubs went back and forth, mostly alternating victories — the Yankees won both Games 2 a
