NEW YORK — After the Mets ’ 4-0 heartbreaking loss to the Miami Marlins on Sunday, manager Carlos Mendoza took all responsibility for the team’s failure to make the postseason.

“I take responsibility. I’m the manager. It starts with me,” Mendoza told reporters outside the visitors’ clubhouse in loanDepot Park. “I’ve got to take a long look here at how I need to get better.”

On Monday, Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns delivered his post-mortem on a disappointing season at Citi Field. There, he reinforced his confidence in Mendoza as the manager of the club next season.

“Yeah, Carlos is coming back next year,” Stearns said without hesitation when asked if Mendoza would return.
