LEE COUNTY, S.C. — A man accused of fatally shooting a woman at a Lee County gas station remains behind bars. after appearing before a judge to hear the charges against him for the first time.

Authorities say the victim and suspect were in a relationship and the shooting happened in front of the couple's children.

On Monday afternoon, 34-year-old Derrick Scott Sr. heard the charges against him: murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and unlawfully placing a child at risk of or causing harm.

During his first appearance, an aunt of the victim pleaded with the judge that Scott shouldn’t receive bond.

"He don’t need a bond. He don’t need one," she said.

The judge could not set bond due to the severity of the charge, meaning Scott will remain behind bars for now.
