Local charities and non-profits issued an urgent appeal for support after Canada Post strike affects donations by mail.

The charities reported that the nationwide strike by postal workers would cut them off funds ahead of Thanksgiving and the holiday season.

“There’s an immediate halt to the donations coming in to support vulnerable community members. It’s a big concern,” Kevin Wiebe, donor relations manager at Hope Mission.

Every year on Thanksgiving, the Edmonton non-profit serves hot meals to the city’s most vulnerable neighbours. The majority of the charity’s donations still come through mail, according to Wiebe.

Hope Mission isn’t alone with their concerns.
