Hamblen County Schools will offer a required firearms safety course for all K-12 students as required by the state.

According to an email sent to families of all Hamblen County students, in 2024, the Tennessee General Assembly passed legislation, requiring instruction of firearms safety in schools, outlined in Tennessee Code Annotated §49-6-1016.

Beginning with this school year, all counties shall annually provide students, grades K-12 with age appropriate and grade appropriate instruction on firearm safety.

Superintendent of Schools Arnold Bunch said that the Tennessee Department of Safety created a pamphlet outlining the topics that must be covered.
