EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) -- New Mexico State University has named a new athletics director.

The university has picked Joe Fields of Tulsa University to be its next AD. Fields will begin his new role on Oct. 8.

Fields had served as the deputy athletics director and chief operating officer at Tulsa.

Fields will guide an Athletics Department that has seen some highs in recent years and some lows, most notably the hazing scandal that shut down the men's basketball program during the 2022-23 season.

Fields was picked following a nationwide search to replace Mario Moccia, who guided the Aggies' sports programs for nearly a decade before being dismissed on Jan. 2 this year, on the second day of new NMSU President Valerio Ferme's tenure.
