BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) -- A young girl is in critical condition after she was struck by a school bus in Brooklyn on Monday afternoon, according to the NYPD.

The incident happened around 3:56 p.m. at 1070 East 2nd Street.

Police say the bus was heading north on East 2nd Street at the time of the incident.

The child was taken to Maimonides Medical Center.

The driver remained at the scene.
