KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) - With lawmakers on Capital Hill appearing to be at an end pass, the possibility of a Government shutdown grows larger.

Veterans like Willie Keller have already experienced multiple shutdowns during their years in service.

“It was struggling for some,” said Willie Keller, Commander of VFW Post 12209, located on Fort Hood. “Some of us had savings and still ate at the mess hall, things like that. It affected a lot of people, but as it dragged on a little further, it did affect us.”

That is because a shutdown would effectively stop paychecks for federal employees and service members.

That is why many are welcoming the news that the Army Air Force Exchange Service will remain open during a shutdown, a great help to soldiers and families on post.
