College football’s Week 5 was glorious. Alabama-Georgia. Oregon-Penn State. Ole Miss-Louisiana State. Massive games that more than lived up to the hype.
Week 6, not so much.
Two top-25 showdowns, even if one of them includes Vanderbilt. A few intriguing games, even if they include teams like Maryland and Cincinnati. Even a matchup of unbeatens, even if it includes Houston.
But for the most part, this is a dud week. The Southeastern Conference sports just five games, and one of them is OU hosting Kent State. The Big 12 stages seven games, but none match teams considered contenders for the league championship.
Maybe weeks like this will be less frequent when the SEC and Atlantic Coast Conference move to nine-game schedules next year. One fewer
