The San Diego Housing Commission will begin to require screening for citizenship or legal immigration status for those living in permanent supportive housing, in line with a new federal directive.
The SDHC says the directuive came from the Department of Housing and Urban Development and will be required to continue to receive funding for permanent supportive housing, which includes low-cost rentals or rental assistance for people with disabilities or those who have experienced chronic homelessness.
During the upcoming fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, the SDHC said it’s set to receive $7,729,955 in federal funding that supports 370 households in permanent supportive housing.
