BIBB COUNTY, Ala. ( WBRC ) - A man previously accused of assisting another man in murder has now been charged with capital murder for hire.

Oscar De Santiago Soto was reported missing in June 2025, cited as last being seen in Montevallo, driving his truck, a 1998 black Ford Ranger.

On July 4, a death investigation was launched after burned remains were found in Bibb County within a mile of where his truck was last seen. Soto was found buried underneath his burned pickup truck.

Court records say that sometime between June 18 and June 27, 56-year-old John Wesley Collum of Montevallo reportedly used a backhoe to dig a hole deep enough for Soto’s remains and truck. Then Collum is accused of setting Soto’s remains and truck on fire and then filling the hole with dirt.
