PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Anyone walking through the halls of the people's house between now and the end of November will be welcomed by a colorful display of familiar faces: "Somos Rhode Island."

The name of this art exhibit, which is currently on display in the Rhode Island State House's Lower Level Gallery in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, translates to "We are Rhode Island." It features more than two dozen brightly-colored portraits of famous Hispanic and Latino Rhode Islanders and their allies, all painstakingly crafted in the pointillist style by local artist Rene Gomez.

"This is people I've grown up with, people I've seen go through the ranks of becoming who they become," said Gomez, who is the first Latino artist to have a solo display in the State House Gallery.
