MADISON COUNTY, Arkansas — Snake season in Arkansas typically peaks during the spring months. However, this year, experts say the activity is stretching well into the fall, prompting safety warnings for residents and pet owners alike.

According to Keith Stephens with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC), the state’s unpredictable weather is largely to blame.

“It does warm up like it does in Arkansas,” Stephens said. “We have strange days where it'll be 70 degrees in the middle of December. You're probably going to see some snakes get out, try to warm up a little.”

Stephens warns that residents should remain cautious of venomous species still active across the state. “You'll see some rattlesnakes, copperheads, cottonmouths — especially in wetter areas,” he said. “Those are three
