Throughout his round at Pine Valley Country Club, Karl Behrens said his heart was racing.
Behrens began Monday as the leader of the FWGA Senior City Championship, a tournament he’d been trying to win for five years — even finishing runner-up twice — but never could get over the hump.
“It’s been on my calendar for six years,” Behrens said. “I’ve circled it like this is an important tournament to play well in, so I’ve looked forward to trying to have an opportunity to win it.
“It was a nerve-racking day. I was a little nervous. Honestly, the entire day.”
The nerves and racing heart finally subsided, and the trophy he’s had his eyes on for years was finally his. Behrens shot 141 over two rounds, 1-under par, to win the Senior City title over runner-up Joe Hayden and third-place Jason Smit
