BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry has submitted a formal request to deploy up to 1,000 National Guard members throughout the state.

The governor said he made the request for federal help to activate the guard in a letter to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. The letter states, “the proposed mission and scope for the Louisiana National Guard would be to deploy throughout the state to urban centers, supplement law enforcement presence in high-crime areas, provide logistical and communication support, and secure critical infrastructure.”
