The city of Pasadena this week will list 10 of the properties it purchased from Caltrans that the state agency seized from residents to make way for the 710 freeway extension that never happened.

In June, City Council authorized the city to sell the 17 properties that city purchased from Caltrans. State law requires that the city fund three affordable housing units for every Caltrans unit purchased using sales proceeds from its own subsequent sale.

“We are excited that these properties are finally going to market to generate much-needed affordable housing funds,” City’s Housing Director James Wong said in a statement.

In the 1950s, 60s and 70s, Caltrans seized more than 400 properties in Pasadena, South Pasadena and El Sereno.
