MADISON, Wis. -- The Madison Board of Education voted almost unanimously Monday night to raise the annual stipend for its members to $15,000.

All of the board's eight members voted in favor of the raise, except for Board Vice President Maia Pearson who abstained. Along with the annual pay raise, board members will also get $100 for attending and participating in half-day retreats and $200 for full-day retreats.

Monday's vote raises the pay for the board president by an additional $1,200 each year. The board vice president as well as the chairs of the instruction workgroup and operations workgroup will get an added $600 each year.

While the board approved its raise, it unanimously shot down a motion to make board members eligible for district healthcare. Board members also voted against
