Batavia police were looking for two people who attempted to lure children into a vehicle with candy, authorities said Monday.

The incident happened at approximately 5:49 p.m. on Thursday in a parking lot along Wilson Street near Kirk Road. Police said a witness reported a man and woman in a vehicle drove up to a group of children and repeatedly asked if they wanted candy.

A parent then yelled at them to get away from the kids, at which point the driver sped off, authorities said. The vehicle was described as a white Jeep SUV, and the steering wheel had a Hello Kitty cover, according to police.

A Hello Kitty sticker was also visible on the SUV's gas tank cover. Anyone who witnessed the incident was asked to call Batavia police at 630-454-2500.
