ATLANTA — Some big changes are coming for electric and hybrid vehicle owners in Georgia.

Starting tomorrow, drivers of EVs and hybrids will no longer get a free ride in the Peach Pass express lanes or carpool lanes — at least not when they’re driving solo.

For years, Georgia had allowed these environmentally friendly vehicles to bypass tolls and use high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes without meeting the usual occupancy requirements. But that perk is going away.

If you're behind the wheel of an EV or hybrid and you’re alone in the car, expect to start paying tolls just like everyone else. That includes express lanes throughout metro Atlanta.
