Ohio is set to enforce new driver's training requirements for residents under 21 starting tomorrow, aiming to reduce high accident rates among young adults. Gov. Mike DeWine said the accident rate, including deadly crashes, is higher among 18, 19, and 20-year-olds compared to their 16 and 17-year-old counterparts who undergo driver's training.
Driving instructor Joe Paul recalled, "When I was a kid, almost everybody got their license at 16. But nowadays it's been getting older and older." The new law that takes effect Tuesday requires 24 hours of classroom instruction, eight hours of behind-the-wheel training with a licensed instructor, and 50 hours of driving practice with a parent or eligible adult in the passenger seat.
