ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The home where a famous Florida author lived for a short period of time has now been restored, and you can actually spend the night there.

Zora Neale Hurston often visited and sometimes lived in St. Augustine in the early 20th century.

In the 1940's, she rented a room in a house at 791 West King in St. Augustine.

Over the years, it became run down and needed a lot of TLC.

"It needed a lot of work," historian David Nolan recalled. He did not want to see the house torn down because it is historic. Zora Neale Hurston lived on the second floor for a short period of time. She was a rare Black woman author in the 1930s and 40s who wrote many books including Their Eyes Were Watching God .
