WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The spirit of Wichita State University lit up campus Monday night.

The kickoff of Shocktoberfest, the school’s multi-day fall celebration of spirit and pride, brought together the WSU cheer team, marching band, and athletes. The event has been a campus tradition for more than three decades.

"Shocktoberfest has kind of had its ups and downs through the years. It used to be a huge thing. Kind of went away for a little bit, now I think they're trying to revive it again and make it what it was," Ted Woodward, the P.A. announcer for the Shockers. "Students are trying to make it part of campus tradition again."

Shocktoberfest continues all week, culminating with Shocker Madness on Saturday night at Koch Arena, headlined by Grammy Award-winning rapper Lupe Fiasco.
