GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - The Wisconsin DNR released its 2026-27 biennial habitat work plan in an effort to stabilize and support our native fish and wildlife.
The new plan outlines both current and planned habitat work, including prescribed burns, invasive species control, wetland enhancements, and other projects.
The department says it’s typical for habitat management needs to exceed available funding and that donations are critical to the project’s success.
“Interestingly, habitat funding in Wisconsin is not funded through general tax revenue; it’s funded through primarily two sources - federal grants, as well as our fish and wildlife account, which is funded solely from purchase of hunting licenses and fishing licenses in the state,” Tim Lizotte, Public Lands Specialist for the Wis
