AUSTIN, Texas — A decades-old murder case has seen a major breakthrough , bringing long-awaited closure to the Austin community. The development is also giving renewed hope to four men who were wrongfully accused , with one now calling for a formal exoneration.

In 1999, Michael Scott and three other teenage boys, ages 15 to 17, were arrested in connection with the Yogurt Shop Murders. After an 18-hour interrogation, Scott confessed and was sentenced to life in prison without parole. He later recanted, claiming his confession was false and coerced.

Scott’s conviction was eventually overturned following new DNA testing that revealed biological evidence at the crime scene did not match any of the four accused.
