A Maitland dog owner who just lost her husky to a snake bite is urging other pet owners to be wary of snakes, with sightings on the rise as the weather heats up.
Gillieston Heights resident Christine Driscoll's husky Dominic was bitten by a brown snake on Tuesday, September 16.
He was taken to the vet but didn't survive, and now Christine comes home worried every day that her other dog will be bitten too.
"In the two years since we've been there, this has been the third brown snake in our yard that we've known about, and the dogs have been bitten twice, and one not survived," she said.
"With all the new development going on in the area, it's just displacing all of the snakes, and they're encroaching on the local roads."
