New Delhi, Sept 29: India and Bhutan are set to be connected by rail for the first time, with two railway projects worth Rs 4,033 crore fully funded by the Centre.
The announcement was made by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw alongside Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Monday, marking a historic moment in bilateral relations between the two countries.
The ambitious India-Bhutan Railway Project will link Bhutan’s Gelephu and Samtse towns to India’s vast railway network.
The Kokrajhar–Gelephu line will connect Bhutan to Bongaigaon, one of India’s major industrial hubs, while the Banarhat–Samtse line will strengthen ties with West Bengal.
