In the last text message Tai Trieu received from her brother, Tony, he congratulated her on finishing the City2Surf in Sydney's wind and rain.

She had trained for months with her husband to run the 14km race, and her brother had been one of her biggest supporters.

"What an amazing effort sis and Jay! So proud of you guys. Your hard work paid off! I don't think I could have done it," Tony said.

Two days later, he died of a brain aneurysm at the age of 48.

"We were all very devastated, none of us really knew what a brain aneurysm was," Tai says.

"While we were at the hospital and I was talking to the surgeon, I was like, 'Why did this happen? Was there signs that we just didn't see?'

"And he was like, 'No, there's no symptoms, it can happen to anyone and your brother was just unlucky'.
