CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Swells generated by two tropical systems, Hurricane Humberto and Tropical Storm Imelda, will create dangerous conditions along the South Carolina coast this week.
Forecasters with the National Hurricane Center said the swells will likely cause life-threatening surf and rip currents.
Tropical Storm Imelda is on a path out to sea; however, its impacts can be felt along the southeastern U.S. coast, including in Charleston, by generating high surf, beach erosion, and dangerous rip currents through Saturday morning.
A high surf advisory was issued by the National Weather Service in Charleston, with large breaking waves of five to seven feet possible in the surf zone, according to forecasters. This will present a danger of swimming and surfing at the area beaches.
