Police have sealed off the headquarters of the National Economic Empowerment Fund (Neef) in Lilongwe, following a government directive to close the offices indefinitely.

When reporters visited the premises on Tuesday, no one was being allowed inside.

Neef CEO Humphrey Mdyetseni confirmed the development, stating, “Government has told us to stop working. Why are you asking me questions to do with the office?”

Earlier, Mdyetseni had referred further inquiries to Malawi Police Service deputy commissioner Noel Kaira, who said he would investigate the matter.

Neef has been known for lending billions of kwachas to Malawians for business and agricultural purposes.
