The American League Wild Card matchup between the Detroit Tigers and the Cleveland Guardians feels pretty fated. After a disastrous collapse in September, once again the Tigers have to face down their foes across Lake Erie and beat them in their home park to advance. They could have earned themselves an easier path by handling them better over the past two weeks, but they failed. And so two teams that know each other well and have really developed an intense, if amicable, rivalry over the past year will square up once again for the right to advance into the American League Divisional Series.

With two teams that know each other so well, there aren’t going to be many surprises. No one is going to pull something truly unexpected out of their hats. Will the Tigers be bunting and try to steal
