MATHEWS Co., VA (WAVY) -- Mathews County public safety officials said the playground at "Port Fun" now has new emergency call boxes.
The Mathews County Sheriff's Office said they are built for emergencies and offer a "HELP" button that dials 911. For issues like locking your keys in your car, safety officials said you can use the "INFO" button for the non-emergency line.
MCSO said this is the first of nine call boxes to be installed throughout the county. Other locations include Fort Nonsense, most county-owned beaches and boat ramps.
The call boxes were partially funded by a Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services grant that was awarded in FY2024.
