Gov. Jeff Landry sent a letter to U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth requesting a deployment of 1,000 National Guard troops to Louisiana cities to support law enforcement Thursday.
The letter cites crime rates in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Shreveport, but did not lay out a precise plan for where Guard members would be deployed.
The move would be another major deployment of the National Guard during the Trump Administration, which this year has sent trips to Washington D.C and announced plans for deployments in Portland, Oregon, and Memphis Tennessee.
Here's the letter Landry sent requesting the federally funding troops in Louisiana.
