Public nudity is now officially banned in Burlington, Vermont.
The Burlington City Council voted 9-2 on Monday night to approve an ordinance making indecent exposure in public spaces illegal, according to WPTZ . Until now, public nudity had been allowed in Burlington.

In recent years, there have been multiple instances of peopel walking naked in downtown Burlington, and local businesses have complained that it is bad for business.
The councilors who opposed the ordinance voiced concern that the ban would impact traditions like the Burlington Naked Bike Ride, but an amendment was made Monday to make special events like that exempt from punishment.
The ordinance takes effect in late October.
