CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Sweeping change ahead for U.S. drug imports — but there is lots of uncertainty behind the headlines.

President Donald Trump announced 100% tariffs on many branded pharmaceutical products starting this week .

The White House has said generic drugs won't be hit, since they aren't "branded." But for brand-name medicines made abroad, companies must show they're "breaking ground" or "under construction" on U.S. facilities to avoid the tariff.
