Former State Controller Betty Yee is aware of where she sits in the polls among candidates for California governor in 2026.

She trails the leading candidates , a group that includes fellow Democrats Katie Porter, a former congresswoman, and former U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra.

No matter — Yee, a San Francisco native, is right where she wants to be. The primary election is about eight months away, and nobody in the field appears unbeatable as the state’s political attention slowly begins to turn to next November.
