The City of Bayswater could soon be joining the growing list of Perth councils trying to rein in short-term rental properties, with a new proposal to increase rates to be considered at their July council meeting.

Councillor Nat Latter wants the city to “play a greater role in balancing outcomes between short-term accommodation and long-term rental properties in the district” as part of its 2026-27 business plan and budgeting process.

She has proposed the city consider introducing a “differential rating category” for short-term rental accommodation, which would effectively impose higher rates on short-term rental accommodation properties to reflect their commercial nature.
