Bhubaneswar: In a significant crackdown ahead of the festive season, police seized illegal fire crackers worth around Rs 1 crore during raids on houses and godowns of two businessmen at Biramitrapur’s Gole Bazaar in Odisha’s Sundargarh district.

The joint operation by Biramitrapur and Sundaragrh police began last evening and lasted for over 12 hours. It was part of statewide ‘Agni’ campaign, aimed at curbing illegal storage, transportation, and sale of explosives and firecrackers before Diwali. ADVERTISEMENT

Earlier, Odisha Police had seized explosives worth a whopping Rs 8.24 crore and arrested 133 persons during the two-week-long special drive from September 14 to 27. Boudh saw the highest seizure at Rs 5 crore, followed by Angul at Rs 1.50 crore, while Keonjhar recorded the most case
