LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Governor Gretchen Whitmer has signed a bipartisan bill aimed at giving Michiganders more time to protect their property rights and clarifying key rules around land and home ownership.

House Bill 4524 simplifies property transactions by extending the deadline for property owners to claim an interest in a property by an additional two years.

This extension allows more time for individuals to record property interests, including those related to mineral rights, driveways, and walking paths.

The new law also protects residents from unexpected claims based on outdated, vague, or long-forgotten documents.
