ST. PETERBURG, Fla. — The unemployment numbers from the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics are out, and while there’s a slight increase across the board for people without a job, the numbers for some demographics are dramatically higher.

What You Need To Know • The unemployment rate for Black workers increased from 7.2% to 7.5%, the highest rate since October 2021 (7.6%) • Since 2022, the Black unemployment rate has been nearly 2% points higher than the unemployment rate for all workers. In August, the Black unemployment rate was 3 percentage points higher than the unemployment rate for all workers • Some analysts attribute those higher numbers to the elimination of diversity, equity and inclusion programs and layoffs for federal jobs
