A slow-moving grass fire is burning through the foothills near the University of Utah, according to the Salt Lake City Fire Department, creating a haze of smoke over the east portion of the county.
The fire has so far burned between 10 and 15 acres, according to Utah Fire Info, and no structures have been threatened. Salt Lake City Fire first reported details about the fire just before 7 a.m.
Several ground and air resources are being used in response to the fire, according to Salt Lake Fire, including help from the Utah Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Forest Service, Salt Lake City Police Department and Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Department.
Salt Lake Fire is asking people to avoid the area, which they say includes trails behind the City Creek stream, Dry Creek and the Avenues. T
