COLUMBUS, Ohio - Railroad crash data compiled by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) shows variations in rail-highway grade crossing incidents across Mahoning, Trumbull, and Columbiana counties in recent years.

The statistics, part of the PUCO's 2024 Rail Statistics Report released in September 2025, cover crashes dating back to 2018.

Collectively, the three counties recorded 22 total railroad crashes between 2018 and 2024, resulting in 5 fatalities and 8 total injuries.

Columbiana County reported the highest number of incidents, with 12 total crashes from 2018 through 2024. This included four fatal crashes and four total fatalities over the seven years.
