BJP MP Hema Malini, who is leading an eight-member NDA delegation to look into the circumstances that led to the stampede in Karur that resulted in the death of 41 people during a rally of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay, seemed to be suggesting a conspiracy angle as she said the narrow venue and power cut during the rally appeared to be "something fishy."

She pointed out that the decision of local authorities to allow a "narrow venue" for the programme was "inappropriate."

"There was a power cut during Vijay's rally. Something appears to be fishy, not natural," she said.
