In the aftermath of sexual assault or rape, people can struggle with feelings of isolation and might not know where to seek support.
That’s where NHS Scotland’s sexual assault response co-ordination service (SARCS) can help.
It’s a free, 24/7 self-referral service that can arrange support in the days following rape or sexual assault for those who are not ready or unsure about going to the police.
Since the initiative was introduced in 2022, SARCS has worked to provide sensitive care for those who need it, treating more than 3,000 referrals to date with dignity and respect.
Sarah Scally, a forensic nurse practitioner at SARCS, explains, “Our staff can help make sense of what has happened, and give you choice and breathing space to make a decision that's right for you.
"We are here to
